Mayfield Law Office, LLC

Justice for Mistreated Oregon Employees

Medical
Sick Leave
Workers Compensation

If you have requested time off work for a medical/mental health issue or for the birth of a child, and faced discrimination, unreasonable denial of leave, or else retaliation post-leave, you may have a claim. Likewise, if you have been injured on the job and denied medical leave, or have come back to work only to be demoted or terminated after your recovery, you may have a workers compensation claim. Note that these claims are especially fact-specific and may depend on the size of the employer, length of employment, contractual provisions etc.

Status-Based Discrimination
Retaliation

If you believe your employer is treating you differently than others on the basis of a protected class, or has terminated/retaliated against you on the basis of a protected class (or for complaining), you may have a claim. Protected class includes: race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin etc. There are also special protections for those with disabilities, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers etc.

Wage
Labor
Unemployment

Labor/Wage: Although Mayfield Law Office has expertise in meal break and wage/labor disputes, those are not currently a practice area. These claims cover a wide range of areas from not receiving overtime pay, not receiving a final paycheck, not receiving required lunch or meal breaks etc. You may still submit a request for a consultation as rare exceptions may be made, caseload permitting.
Unemployment: Likewise, If you have been denied unemployment benefits after a termination, and are seeking a lawyer to represent you on appeal, Mayfield Law Office may be able to help, although this is currently not a robust practice area, and may be denied as such.

Whistleblowing Retaliation

If you have reported workplace misconduct, illegal activity, discrimination, or unsafe work conditions etc. to your superiors (sometimes even if you are mistaken), only to face retaliation or a termination, you may have a claim.

Sexual Harassment
Hostile Work Environment

If you have faced unwanted sexual advances or misconduct from co-workers (or a superior) and you reported it to your employer, but the situation was not handled properly or taken seriously, you may have a claim. Likewise, if co-workers are harassing you because of your sex (or race, religion etc.), your employer is aware but does not remedy the situation, you may have a claim. Note that hostile work environment claims are very fact-specific, and not all “hostile” behavior is against the law.

Other/Defense

Mayfield Law Office is not currently accepting any cases that are unrelated to employment/work/business. However, some employment or work-related issues do not fit neatly in the above practice areas. You may be an independent contractor, a partner, or an LLC member facing a deal gone bad. If you believe you have an employment issue that is not covered by a practice area, please still feel free to request a consultation. Additionally, although Mayfield Law Office focuses on Plaintiffs work, exceptions may be made for employers seeking defense services.
